The Proud of Belper
The Belper 'pride' Event was as huge success and Christ Church played its part with a prominent stall in the Memorial Gardens and new curate Bruce Johnson donning a rainbow dog collar to emphasise Christ Church's commitment to inclusivity at the church.
All reported by 'Nailed' below:
"There were just the right amount and type of food stalls, including Dosa Love street food, and Posh Cow ice creams, as well as stalls selling creative wares, and highlighting local inclusivity, like Christ Church, whose new Curate Bruce Johnson, adorned with a rainbow dog collar, was telling people about their inclusive church which “does not discriminate on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race, or sexuality.”

Wider Church
The Choir
-
We are an RSCM affiliated church and one of the few in the area to still have a traditional robed four-part choir.
-
The choir has a large repertoire, performing pieces from the last five centuries of sacred music.
-
They can be heard at Sung Mass on Sundays at 11am and at Choral Evensong and special services throughout the year.
They are also available to sing at weddings and funerals upon request.
-
If you are interested in joining the choir or have any other queries about music, please get in touch with our Director of Music, Elin Heron, via the Contact Us page.
We are especially keen to welcome young singers.
The Organ
We have an impressive organ which is played by our long-standing organist Mr David Roome.

Social Committee
Our social committee is responsible for organising a variety of events throughout the year which go someway towards raising the extra funds needed to keep our church running. Meals at Advent, Lent, Spring, Summer and Harvest provide an opportunity for parishioners to socialise together and enjoy a three course meal.
Coffee mornings, cake sales, table-top sales take place throughout the year, as well as concerts and entertainment.
During the spring the committee is responsible for organising our Well Dressing event, a local Derbyshire custom of creating a picture out of flowers, where cream teas and ploughmans lunches are served.
In December our Christmas Tree Festival takes place, again with refreshments, raffles and tombola all provided by the social committee.
Men’s Group
The men’s group meets once a fortnight on Monday evenings at the George & Dragon on Bridge Street for a social get together.
The group is responsible for some of the more physical activities needed to keep the church running, such as erecting and dismantling the stage, shifting a few dozen Christmas trees around and helping with running repairs to church property.
Ladies’ Group
A group for the ladies in the congregation also meets once a fortnight on Monday evenings at The Devonshire on Bridge Street for a social get together.
Pastoral Team
There is an active Pastoral Team who work in the local community. Please enquire for more details.
